DKT Anglophone West Africa (AWA) is an innovative and adventurous social marketing enterprise committed to improving reproductive health and promoting family planning and HIV/AIDS prevention throughout West Africa. Operating as part of DKT International, a globally recognized non-profit organization founded in 1989, DKT AWA focuses on addressing critical reproductive health challenges in some of the world’s most populous and underserved countries. Through the power of social marketing, DKT aims to improve access to family planning, safe abortion services, and HIV/AIDS prevention in regions with the greatest need.

The AWA region operates in Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, with its headquarters based in Accra, Ghana. Established in 2010, DKT Ghana was created with the specific mission of increasing the contraceptive prevalence rate and reducing maternal mortality in the country. Recognizing the broader regional need for reproductive health services, DKT Ghana expanded its operations in 2018 to include neighboring Liberia and Sierra Leone to form DKT AWA. Liberia, where two-thirds of the population is under the age of 25, and Sierra Leone, which has the world’s highest maternal mortality rate (1 in 21 women risk dying from pregnancy-related causes), presented urgent challenges that DKT AWA set out to address.
